I assume you are on 64bit windows? and have you tried this driver
The problem with a USB 2.0 hub is that you are still plugging it in to a 3.0 port so you have not solved your problem at all. Yea the USB 3.0 should be able to use a 2.0 device fine.

Now im trying to search for a usb hub that can convert 3.0 to 2.0 either that or i got a bunch of controllers that i wont be able to use. Tried installing the control device on my old laptop i used to mess around with, both the maschine and m-audio works fine on 2.0 ports. "Windows encountered a problem while installing your device" Just today, i was installing an m-audio axiom 25 and hit the same wall. So i continued with my research as i am still itching to use this. Native instruments got back to me, and made me run a test to see what could be causing the problem. It seems that maschine hardware perfectly works with 2.0. My usb ports are 3.0, after a couple of research most people have the same problem with 3.0 usb ports. I think i have officially found the problem with the controller, im not really sure though but it seems that it has something to do with my usb hub/ports.
